Avatar Breaks Titanic Record
James Cameron is outdoing himself. The Avatars have succeeded in beating Titanic. The Sci-fi movie has emerged as the highest earning movie of all time. Till Sunday the movie has earned around $1.292 billion worldwide.
The major earning markets were: France ($123.3 million), Germany ($95.7 million), the U.K. ($92.9 million), South Korea ($79.5 million), Japan ($77.7 million), Australia ($77.1 million) and Spain ($76 million). Avatar has emerged as the highest earning film in China.
The movie has a typical formula story line. But the technical aspect of the movie is very strong. James Cameron, as usual, has invested heavily in developing new shooting technologies for the movie.
Avatar is a sci-fi movie about the conflict between natives of a planet and humans. Humans want to exploit their planet's resources and sent avatars to convince natives to move from the place where the Unobtanium is hidden so that they can extract it.
The word Avatar is has emerged from the Indian Civilization where Avatar means that an entity (gods) can take births on Earth in different forms. Lord Krishna is an avatar of Lord Vishnu, similarly the famous Hanuman is avatar of Lord Shiva.
In a 2007 interview with Time magazine, Cameron was asked about the meaning of the term "avatar", to which he replied, "It's an incarnation of one of the Hindu gods taking a flesh form. In this film what that means is that the human technology in the future is capable of injecting a human's intelligence into a remotely located body, a biological body".
