Footsteps

Worms at my feet,
in my shoes,
in my socks...

I'm buried in my tunnel.
The ground keeping me in place.
The whole world shaking...

I'm one of the few still alive.

I told you
they were coming...

You just thought I had a wild imagination,
seen too many movies,
ate too much chili before bed.

Now you're gagging
with a long-fingered claw down your throat...
It especially doesn't feel good coming out the other end.

I'm watching from my hole in the ground,
hole in the head of the earth.

Night Rain

Desperation in the air
wet with drizzle,
dispirited fog
clinging to the curbs of the street.

Dugan McQueen

When the great earthquakes swept across the continent,
uplifting plates of crust country size,
steam and lava spurts piercing the overhang of clouds,
