Submission FAQ
Q. Can I submit through snail mail?
A. No. Snails are known to be extremely slow. We tried them once and the Pizzas were never delivered! We learned our lesson, so now we accept online submissions only. There is another reason: most of our editors and staff are based out of different locations and we are travelling often, so an online submission has the absolute best chances of being seen by one of the editors.
Q. Whom should I contact to inquire about the status of my submission?
A. Contact Aliens, and if you succeed, let us know that the first contact with aliens has been established. We will cover that story in Kalkion.
Serious Note, the moment you submit a story, you will get a confirmation email of the receipt. But that email doesn't mean acceptance of the submission. Given the amount of submissions pending approval, it may take few hours or up to a week for editors to review and update you with the status of your submission. In the case that you do not hear from us within a week, you can send us a reminder through an e-mail. Please mention the Title of the story along with the submission date.
Q. If my story gets rejected, can I submit it again after a period of time?
A. Yes, but period of time doesn't mean within one minute!
Serious Note: We don't reject stories due to content overflow. The basis of rejection will be the quality of content. However, as our goal is to encourage authors, unlike other publications our editors may choose to send you some suggestions to revise the story in order to make it appropriate for publication. The rejection email may also carry the reasons of rejection, but that is a prerogative of the editor reviewing the story. Either way, expect to hear feedback from us!
Q. Can I ask the editor about the suggested changes needed in the story?
A. Feel free to ask anything to the editor. Our purpose is to publish quality fiction online and we are here to help!
Q. Can I send my story somewhere else as well, once it gets published on kalkion.com?
A. All content published on kalkion is licensed under various Creative Commons Licenses, so you can. But if you are sending an already published story make sure that you have the proper re-publishing copyright on the material. In case of any dispute it will be your sole responsibility to face legal charges. Our suggestion is submit your story to ONLY one publication.
Q. Can I call someone to check the status of my submission?
A. Our editors work full time on other projects so they will not be available to accept your calls regarding submission. In this global economic meltdown, we can not afford an out-sourced call center :-)
Q. Is my work protected?
A. Yes. We use one of the most advanced Copyright Licenses -- Creative Commons. We use different Licenses for different type of content. All work of fiction/poetry is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 2.5 India License.Check, Copyright and Licenses section.
Q. Will Kalkion fight my case, or provide me with some legal assistance, if someone infringes on my work published on Kalkion?
A. Don't call dad to do mom's job. No. We will not be able to provide you with any legal advice or support. We are not a law firm.
Q. Will Kalkion fight on my behalf if any legal matter arises concerning content submitted by me and published under my name?
A: We are not a law firm, we only provide you with the platform to publish your work. Kalkion will not be able to provide any kind of legal advice or legal support if any legal charges are pressed against you.
Q. How much do I get paid?
A. Kalkion is a new venture. We currently do not pay to authors. All we offer for the time being is publicity of your work. But, we sincerely hope that we will find a revenue generation model and will be able to pay our contributors in future.
