Hobbits On A Plane

Air New Zealand has released a Safety Video inspired by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which sees Gollum in an aircraft, Peter Jackson (with natural Gandalf hair and beard) picking up the ring and descendants of J.R.R Tolkien all explaining safety on a plane.

The video is called  ‘An Unexpected Briefing’ and it's all part of New Zealand's grand plan to rebrand itself as Middle Earth, give passengers a fun video to watch and a general all-round publicity stunt. There's even secret Elvish codes hidden within the video, and if you find them you can then visit this site and be in with a chance to win a trip for two to New Zealand, including a tour of the Hobbiton movie set, a visit to the Weta Cave in Wellington, and double passes to the red carpet global premiere of the film.

It's Air New Zealand's first broadside in a two-year global marketing programme dedicated to the Hobbit Trilogy. They're also planning on flying in several hundred journalists to experience Middle-earth. (For the term of their natural lives!) And they'll be showing off a Hobbit themed aircraft prior to the movie’s global premiere in Wellington on November 28.
