Why Wild Cat Books Is Popular Amongst Writers

Ron Hanna's popularity could be seen in the testimonials by his authors...

"For me, it's the knowledge that you'll respect my creative vision enough to allow me to see it through. You might make suggestions but in the end, the story will be MINE and not editorially dictated, as has been the case with other publishers." -- Barry Resse

"WCB has been around for over a decade and you can't have that kind of longevity in the small press niche market of pulpdom unless you're doing something right.  They believe in every book they publish or else they simply do not publish it.  Theres a lot of slick talking, slick looking offerings from similar outfits out there, but very few have anything of substance behind that fasaud.  WCB wants to put out the best material for its readers that it can, and it does.  While other guys are hype, hype, hype, Wild Cat is out there doing what it does best, publishing some great material with the fan of the genre first and foremost in mind." -- Wayne Judge

"I'm not exactly in a position to comment on WCB from the position of a contributing writer, but I can attest to Wayne's observation about the track record. I remember coming across WCB several years ago, before their was any talk of a pulp resurgence. A lot has happened since then; the POD platform has been revolutionized making it possible for ANYONE to become a publisher, but WCB is still here.

I have also noticed that there is a tendency among some of the outlets to simply glom onto a particular public domain character without bringing any kind of originality to the table. WCB seems more interested in the spirit of the pulps--grand adventures that are reader-friendly--rather than simply cashing in on the relative familiarity of the characters." -- Sean

"Well, originally I accepted since A)you [Ron] asked politely and B)I was looking to get published again (my one prior sale was to Permuted Press), so I can have some credits to my name to try and break into other aspects of publishing (screeplay writing and comics). After I sent in my first story (which was published third in Startling #2), I discovered what a nice guy Ron is (take a bow, blush if you wish, the truth is the truth) and decided to stay here since I am pretty prolific and will write for as many publishers as I can, reserving my pulp stuff strictly for WCB, unless of course, Hollywood knocks and then I'll adapt it for them too."

"Wildcat definitely puts out a slick product.  I'm very happy to have been associated with the big WC.  But the biggest kudos I can give go to you, Ron, for having started it and keeping it going as long you have.  I appreciate how much this place is run like a family business and each project is a labor of love." -- Shelby Rhodes

"Having worked with Wild Cat and Ron for several years now, I can say that the books are high quality, responsibly priced and Ron's great to work with. He's understanding and allows the artist freedom to create, and he knows what he wants. This has helped Wild Cat become what it is today." -- David Burton

"I could put it into one word if I was inclined to want to generalise: WISIWIG (what you see is what you get). But that wouldn't be adequate. I've seen and heard so much BS over the years from so called publishers who love the genre and make empty promises and in the end it's all about making money for them. Book won't sell, they don't publish. Simple as that, regardless of the fact that there is a larger than believed niche audience out there. WCB publishes books for people who love writing and for people who love reading the genre. Cover art. The WCB site list of titles exudes talented cover artists. It just jumps out off of the page right at ya.
Loyalty.
Dedication.
Besides, it's nice to be a part of something where like-minded people share similar ideas and goals.
Wild Cat Books rocks!" -- Tim Jones

"Why do I choose to work with WCB? Good question. First of all, it's loyalty. Ron wasn't the first to publish my stories but he was the first to publish my book - THE DEVIL OF HARBOR CITY - back when he was putting out the magazine format books. We had some difficulties but Ron worked them out professionally. And when he switched to trade pb's THE DEVIL was one of the first.
Next, he's passionate about putting out a good product, making sure the covers, format, etc. are the best they can be.
And next, he understands the strange beast that is the writer, and takes his concerns about covers, formats, etc. into consideration when designing books.
He keeps production costs down (as best he can), knowing that his authors make most of their money from these books by buying and selling on their own.
We don't have to wait a year before an accepted book comes out
So while I may not submit all my work to Ron, I'm sure that when the right book comes along I'll be sending it his way. ”
