Half-Truths

What happened, my friend?
Did you grow too old,
enjoy too much of the good life?
Was there a real or imagined slight;
the fight too big, the opponent too strong?

Once you were powerful,
unafraid – certain you were right;
with the energy of youth,
a vision pure and scalpel-sharp.

But now they call you
minor, propagandistic, and topical;
yet without you
those days of the U.S.A would be lost,
lost and left to the short-sighted critics
with their feeble half-truths:
minor, propagandistic, and topical.
