Vishwa Mohan Tiwari

Vishwa Mohan Tiwari, Honorary Editor -- Kalkion, is from a small town called Jabalpur in M.P., India which is known for its Marble Rocks. His graduation degree is in Telecommunication Engineering (1956) where, in the college, he was President of the Students Union. He also holds a Diploma each in Hindi Literature and Classical Music. In 1957, he was Commissioned in the Indian Air Force in its Technical branch where he got to fly also as an engineer for seven years.

In 1960, as part of the United Nations Peace Keeping Force, he was sent to the Congo. In 1968 the IAF was sent for Masters degree in Aviation Electronics to the Cranfield Institute of Technology - UK. He was decorated for his contributions during the operations in the two Indo-Pak wars (1965 and 1971). In 1991 he retired from the Air Force as an Air Vice Marshal.

Since then, he has been working even longer hours writing and doing social work. Photography and Ornithology (bird watching) have been his special hobbies for some time. When he was posted in the High Commission of India in UK, he enjoyed the international exposure and was a Certificate winner in the International Photo Salon Competition - 1980.

He is keenly interested in philosophy, he has presented a paper on 'Rebirth: A Modern View" in All India Philosophical Congress in 1995 held at Haridwar. He also presented a paper ‘Philosophies of Hinduism and Sikhism’ at a seminar on ‘Asian Religions’ at San Jose State University¸ California, in 2002.

He is the contributing author for the Encyclopaedia of Hinduism for the chapter on Upanishads. 22 books of his have been published so far (17 in Hindi and 5 in English) including two anthologies in Hindi of his poems, one translation from Hindi to English of a Poetry-Drama of Dr. Divik Ramesh, one translation of poems ‘Five Hindi Poets’ from Hindi to English, two books on war, one each on bird watching in English and Hindi, one each on space science and electromagnetic waves, two on mathematics, two on travelogues etc.

He has written articles on a variety of subjects (including Birds, Picasso, MF Hussain, War Strategy, Vedic Mathematics, Tele Communication, Medicine, Philosophy, Astronomy, Language and Culture, Literature, Music etc.) He delivers discourses, inter alia, on Indian Philosophy, both in the USA and India.

He was elected as the President of ‘Indian Science Writers Association’ for 2004-2005. He was a Senior Fellow of Culture, Min. Of Human Resources for 1996-1998. He is the Editor of ‘Indian Author’,2003 onwards, a Magazine of Authors Guild of India. He was Vice President of Nature Photographers Society of India 1989 to 1999.

He has been honoured with 26 awards - including 2 from the President of India and one from Vice President.

One of his other key activities had been Squash (a racquet game). He won the 'Bangalore Open Championship' for Squash in 1966, and was Color Holder for Squash at the Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK. in 1968.
